A frequent cause of “sick house syndrome” is negative air pressure buildup—the result of a lack of proper fresh-air exchanges in the home. To help eliminate this problem, Skuttle manufactures two specialized products to provide the fresh air today’s tight homes desperately need. The Model 216 Make-Up Air Control automatically delivers controlled fresh air to solve problems caused by negative indoor air pressure.
Skuttle’s popular 216 Make-up Air Control reduces unwanted air infiltration to provide added indoor comfort. Model 216-1 has a 4 or 6-in. (15.24 cm) diameter and is appropriate for most installations.
An insulated flex duct connects the unit to a screened, fresh air inlet mounted outside the home. When the furnace blower operates, the air control damper opens, automatically drawing outside air into the furnace. The air is filtered, heated or cooled, then circulated through the home’s duct system. As a result, a slight pressure builds up in the home, keeping untreated air from seeping in around windows and doors.
